When you choose to live without God, it's easy to lose that awareness of Him and start making choices that aren't aligned with His ways. Maybe you haven't truly encountered Him yet. Our hearts can be so deceitful, always looking for ways to satisfy our own twisted desires, driven by that inner restlessness.
The only way to live a righteous life is to keep God's word close to your heart and follow His will. That's how genuine goodness grows from deep within.
God isn't pleased when offerings are misused. They should be used to grow His work and spread the Gospel to everyone, fulfilling the command He gave us. Prayer is key to making sure your offerings are used the right way and that you're following God's leading.
“And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it does not matter, but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, is bound by oath.’
“Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sets the gift apart?
‘And do not walk in the laws of the nation which I am driving out before you, for they do all these, and therefore I loathed them.
‘But I say to you, “You are going to possess their land, and I Myself give it to you to possess it, a land flowing with milk and honey.” I am יהוה your Elohim, who has separated you from the peoples.
‘And you shall make a distinction between clean beasts and unclean, and between unclean birds and clean. And do not make yourselves abominable by beast or by bird, or whatever creeps on the ground, which I have separated from you as unclean.
“Do not slaughter to יהוה your Elohim a bull or sheep which has any blemish, any evil matter, for that is an abomination to יהוה your Elohim.
And He also spoke this parable to some who relied on themselves that they were righteous, and looking down on others:
“Two men went up to the Set-apart Place to pray – the one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
“The Pharisee stood and began to pray with himself this way, ‘Elohim, I thank You that I am not like the rest of men, swindlers, unrighteous, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.
‘I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I possess.’
“But the tax collector standing at a distance would not even raise his eyes to the heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, ‘Elohim, show favour unto me, a sinner!’
“I say to you, this man went down to his house declared right, rather than the other. For everyone who is exalting himself shall be humbled, and he who is humbling himself shall be exalted.”
Let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not of grief or of necessity, for Elohim loves a joyous giver.
“Would a man rob Elohim? Yet you are robbing Me! But you said, ‘In what have we robbed You?’ In the tithe and the offering!
“If, then, you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother holds whatever against you,
leave your gift there before the altar, and go, first make peace with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
“For all these out of their excess have put in offerings for Elohim, but she out of her poverty has put in all that she had to live on.”
And Heḇ
but He did not look to Qayin and his offering. And Qayin was very wroth, and his face fell.
“A son esteems his father, and a servant his master. And if I am the Father, where is My esteem? And if I am a Master, where is My fear? said יהוה of hosts to you priests who despise My Name. But you asked, ‘In what way have we despised Your Name?’
“You are presenting defiled food on My altar. But you asked, ‘In what way have we defiled You?’ Because you say, ‘The table of יהוה is despicable.’
“And when you present the blind as a slaughtering, is it not evil? And when you present the lame and sick, is it not evil? Bring it then to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you favourably?” said יהוה of hosts.
for your acceptance, is a male, a perfect one from the cattle, from the sheep, or from the goats.
‘Whatever has a defect, you do not bring, for it is not acceptable for you.
And it came to be, in the course of time, that Qayin brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to יהוה.
And Heḇ
but He did not look to Qayin and his offering. And Qayin was very wroth, and his face fell.
“But when there is any defect in it, lame or blind, or has any evil defect, do not slaughter it to יהוה your Elohim.
‘Whatever has a defect, you do not bring, for it is not acceptable for you.
‘And when a man brings a peace offering to יהוה, to complete a vow, or a voluntary offering from the cattle or the sheep, it is to be perfect to be accepted, let there be no defect in it.
‘Those blind or broken or having a cut, or have an ulcer or eczema or scabs, you do not bring to יהוה, nor make an offering by fire of them on the altar to יהוה.
“And when you present the blind as a slaughtering, is it not evil? And when you present the lame and sick, is it not evil? Bring it then to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you favourably?” said יהוה of hosts.
“You are presenting defiled food on My altar. But you asked, ‘In what way have we defiled You?’ Because you say, ‘The table of יהוה is despicable.’
“And you said, ‘Oh, what weariness!’ and you sneered at it,” said יהוה of hosts. “And you brought in plunder, and the lame, and the sick – thus you have brought in the offering! Should I accept this from your hand?” said יהוה.
“But cursed be the deceiver who has a male in his flock, and makes a vow, but is slaughtering to יהוה what is blemished. For I am a great Sovereign,” said יהוה of hosts, “and My Name is feared among nations.
The slaughtering of the wrong is an abomination; How much more when he brings it with wickedness!
‘Let the lamb be a perfect one, a year old male. Take it from the sheep or from the goats.
perfect ones they are for you. Prepare them with their drink offerings, besides the continual burnt offering with its grain offering.
“Of what use to Me are your many slaughterings?” declares יהוה. “I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed beasts. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs or goats.
“When you come to appear before Me, who has required this from your hand, to trample My courtyards?
“Stop bringing futile offerings, incense, it is an abomination to Me. New Moons, Sabbaths, the calling of meetings – I am unable to bear unrighteousness and assembly.
‘Thus said the Master יהוה, “Enough, you princes of Yisra’ĕ
“Have right scales, and a right ĕ
And looking up He saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury,
and He saw a certain poor widow putting in two mites.
And He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all.
“For all these out of their excess have put in offerings for Elohim, but she out of her poverty has put in all that she had to live on.”
And יהוה says, “Because this people has drawn near with its mouth, and with its lips they have esteemed Me, and it has kept its heart far from Me, and their fear of Me has become a command of men that is taught!
‘This people draw near to Me with their mouth, and respect Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.
‘But in vain do they worship Me, teaching as teachings the commands of men.’ ”
And do not forget to do good and to share, for with such slaughter offerings Elohim is well pleased.
“I have hated, I have despised your festivals, and I am not pleased with your assemblies.
“Though you offer Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I do not accept them, nor do I look on your fattened peace offerings.
“Take away from Me the noise of your songs, for I do not hear the sound of your stringed instruments.
The slaughtering of the wrong ones Is an abomination to יהוה, But the prayer of the straight is His delight.
With what shall I come before יהוה, bow myself before the high Elohim? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?
Is יהוה pleased with thousands of rams or ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give my first-born for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my being?
He has declared to you, O man, what is good. And what does יהוה require of you but to do right, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your Elohim?
“Beware of doing your kind deeds before men, in order to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in the heavens.
“Thus, when you do a kind deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do, in the congregations and in the streets, to be praised by men. Truly, I say to you, they have their reward.
“But when you do a kind deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
so that your kind deed shall be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret shall Himself reward you openly.
For You do not desire slaughtering, or I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering.
The slaughterings of Elohim are a broken spirit, A heart broken and crushed, O Elohim, These You do not despise.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you tithe the mint and the anise and the cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the Torah: the right-ruling and the compassion and the belief. These need to have been done, without neglecting the others.
‘Take from among you a contribution to יהוה. Everyone whose heart so moves him, let him bring it as a contribution to יהוה : gold, and silver, and bronze,
And sitting opposite the treasury He saw how the people put copper into the treasury. And many rich ones put in much.
And a poor widow came and threw in two small copper coins, which amount to a cent.
And calling near His taught ones He said to them, “Truly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those putting into the treasury,
for they all put in out of their excess, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her entire livelihood.”
you also, as living stones, are being built up, a spiritual house, a set-apart priesthood, to offer up spiritual slaughter offerings acceptable to Elohim through יהושע Messiah.
Rule me rightly, O יהוה, For I have walked in my integrity. And I have trusted in יהוה, without wavering.
Examine me, O יהוה, and prove me; Try my kidneys and my heart.
And if I give out all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but do not have love, I am not profited at all.
I call upon you, therefore, brothers, through the compassion of Elohim, to present your bodies a living offering – set-apart, well-pleasing to Elohim – your reasonable worship.
“But cursed be the deceiver who has a male in his flock, and makes a vow, but is slaughtering to יהוה what is blemished. For I am a great Sovereign,” said יהוה of hosts, “and My Name is feared among nations.
Do not be led astray: Elohim is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he shall also reap.
Because he who sows to his own flesh shall reap corruption from the flesh, but he who sows to the Spirit shall reap everlasting life from the Spirit.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask evilly, in order to spend it on your pleasures.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some, by longing for it, have strayed from the belief, and pierced themselves through with many pains.
For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh. And these are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you desire to do.
Guard your steps when you go to the House of Elohim. And draw near to listen rather than to give the slaughtering of fools, for they do not know that they do evil.
Do not be hasty with your mouth, and let not your heart hurry to bring forth a word before Elohim. For Elohim is in the heavens, and you on earth, therefore let your words be few.
Who does go up into the mountain of יהוה ? And who does stand in His set-apart place?
He who has innocent hands and a clean heart, Who did not bring his life to naught, And did not swear deceivingly.
“Would a man rob Elohim? Yet you are robbing Me! But you said, ‘In what have we robbed You?’ In the tithe and the offering!
“You have cursed Me with a curse, for you are robbing Me, this nation, all of it!
“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, and let there be food in My house. And please prove Me in this,” said יהוה of hosts, “whether I do not open for you the windows of the heavens, and shall pour out for you boundless blessing!
or he who encourages, in the encouragement; or he who is sharing, in sincerity; he who is leading, in diligence; he who shows compassion, joyously.
For if the readiness is present, it is well received according to what one has, not according to what he does not have –
not, however, that others should be eased and you hard pressed,
but by fair sharing, that now at this time your plenty for their need, so that their plenty might also be for your need – that there might be fair sharing.
As it has been written, “He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little had not less.”
But a certain man named Ḥ
And he kept back from the price, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the feet of the emissaries.
But Kĕ
“While it remained, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your authority? Why have you conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to Elohim.”
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Master, Master,’ shall enter into the reign of the heavens, but he who is doing the desire of My Father in the heavens.
And He said to them, “Mind, and beware of greed, because one’s life does not consist in the excess of his possessions.”
On the first day of the week let each one of you set aside, storing up whatever he is prospered, so that there are no collections when I come.
For as many as are of works of Torah are under the curse, for it has been written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all that has been written in the book of the Torah, to do them.”
Incline my heart to Your witnesses, And not to own gain.
Turn away my eyes from looking at falsehood, And revive me in Your way.
יהושע said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven. And come, follow Me.”
Charge those who are rich in this present age not to be high-minded, nor to trust in the uncertainty of riches, but in the living Elohim, who gives us richly all for enjoyment,
to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous, ready to share,
storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, so that they lay hold on everlasting life.
