Count it all joy, my brethren, when you meet various trials,
for the anger of man does not work the righteousness of God.
Therefore put away all filthiness and rank growth of wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who observes his natural face in a mirror;
for he observes himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.
But he who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer that forgets but a doer that acts, he shall be blessed in his doing.
If any one thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this man's religion is vain.
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.
More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,
and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,
and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us.
In this you rejoice, though now for a little while you may have to suffer various trials,
so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold which though perishable is tested by fire, may redound to praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.
Rejoice always,
pray constantly,
give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
May those who sow in tears reap with shouts of joy!
He that goes forth weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.
to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us,
For they disciplined us for a short time at their pleasure, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness.
For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant; later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees,
and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed.
Strive for peace with all men, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.
See to it that no one fail to obtain the grace of God; that no “root of bitterness” spring up and cause trouble, and by it the many become defiled;
that no one be immoral or irreligious like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal.
For you know that afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no chance to repent, though he sought it with tears.
For you have not come to what may be touched, a blazing fire, and darkness, and gloom, and a tempest,
and the sound of a trumpet, and a voice whose words made the hearers entreat that no further messages be spoken to them.
looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you.
May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy,
When you pass through the waters I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.
Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you stand firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,
and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear omen to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God.
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my help and my God.
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed every day.
For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,
because we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen; for the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
and said to him, “Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?”
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law.
A glad heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion for ever.
When I am afraid, I put my trust in thee.
In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust without a fear. What can flesh do to me?
Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal which comes upon you to prove you, as though something strange were happening to you.
But rejoice in so far as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.
I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.
I have not hid thy saving help within my heart, I have spoken of thy faithfulness and thy salvation; I have not concealed thy steadfast love and thy faithfulness from the great congregation.
Do not thou, O Lord, withhold thy mercy from me, let thy steadfast love and thy faithfulness ever preserve me!
For evils have encompassed me without number; my iniquities have overtaken me, till I cannot see; they are more than the hairs of my head; my heart fails me.
Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me! O Lord, make haste to help me!
Let them be put to shame and confusion altogether who seek to snatch away my life; let them be turned back and brought to dishonor who desire my hurt!
Let them be appalled because of their shame who say to me, “Aha, Aha!”
But may all who seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee; may those who love thy salvation say continually, “Great is the Lord!”
As for me, I am poor and needy; but the Lord takes thought for me. Thou art my help and my deliverer; do not tarry, O my God!
He drew me up from the desolate pit, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.
but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will tell of all thy wonderful deeds.
And those who know thy name put their trust in thee, for thou, O Lord, hast not forsaken those who seek thee.
Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion! Tell among the peoples his deeds!
For he who avenges blood is mindful of them; he does not forget the cry of the afflicted.
Be gracious to me, O Lord! Behold what I suffer from those who hate me, O thou who liftest me up from the gates of death,
that I may recount all thy praises, that in the gates of the daughter of Zion I may rejoice in thy deliverance.
The nations have sunk in the pit which they made; in the net which they hid has their own foot been caught.
The Lord has made himself known, he has executed judgment; the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands. Higgaion. Selah
The wicked shall depart to Sheol, all the nations that forget God.
For the needy shall not always be forgotten, and the hope of the poor shall not perish for ever.
Arise, O Lord! Let not man prevail; let the nations be judged before thee!
I will be glad and exult in thee, I will sing praise to thy name, O Most High.
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have; for he has said, “I will never fail you nor forsake you.”
Hence we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid; what can man do to me?”
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day's own trouble be sufficient for the day.
The hope of the righteous ends in gladness, but the expectation of the wicked comes to naught.
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my help
And let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart.
Not that I complain of want; for I have learned, in whatever state I am, to be content.
I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound; in any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and want.
But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings,
sometimes being publicly exposed to abuse and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated.
For you had compassion on the prisoners, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one.
fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.
as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything.
that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,
Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
Not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received our reconciliation.
Therefore as sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all men sinned—
sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law.
Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sins were not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.
But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man's trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many.
And the free gift is not like the effect of that one man's sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brings justification.
If, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
Then as one man's trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one man's act of righteousness leads to acquittal and life for all men.
For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by one man's obedience many will be made righteous.
Through him we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of sharing the glory of God.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
I praise thee, for thou art fearful and wonderful. Wonderful are thy works! Thou knowest me right well;
Thou dost keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusts in thee.
Then my enemies will be turned back in the day when I call. This I know, that God is for me.
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, establish, and strengthen you.
Thou dost show me the path of life; in thy presence there is fulness of joy, in thy right hand are pleasures for evermore.
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed be every one who hangs on a tree” —
that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
And the Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your desire with good things, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
Thou hast multiplied, O Lord my God, thy wondrous deeds and thy thoughts toward us; none can compare with thee! Were I to proclaim and tell of them, they would be more than can be numbered.
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us.
We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair;
persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;
When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will rescue him and honor him.
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
And I am sure that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.
For the kingdom of God is not food and drink but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit;
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith.
Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments!
The wicked man sees it and is angry; he gnashes his teeth and melts away; the desire of the wicked man comes to naught.
His descendants will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.
I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall exult in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Without having seen him you love him; though you do not now see him you believe in him and rejoice with unutterable and exalted joy.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.
What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who is against us?
He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, will he not also give us all things with him?
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou dost preserve my life; thou dost stretch out thy hand against the wrath of my enemies, and thy right hand delivers me.
nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.”
God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.
for God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power and love and self-control.
Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing; thou hast loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness,
that my soul may praise thee and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to thee for ever.
Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God; for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity, and I have trusted in the Lord without wavering.
men in whose hands are evil devices, and whose right hands are full of bribes.
But as for me, I walk in my integrity; redeem me, and be gracious to me.
My foot stands on level ground; in the great congregation I will bless the Lord.
Prove me, O Lord, and try me; test my heart and my mind.
For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love be servants of one another.
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my help and my God.
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Little children, you are of God, and have overcome them; for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why we utter the Amen through him, to the glory of God.
Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love,
if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday.
And the Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your desire with good things, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and keep their souls.
He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.
A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted;
but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
With the Lord on my side I do not fear. What can man do to me?
The Lord is on my side to help me; I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.
And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you stand firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,
Therefore, if any one is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come.

Brethren, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,
I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
