17 or eaten my piece of bread by myself, and the fatherless did not eat of it –

And it came to be that he was raising Haḏassah, that is Estĕr, his uncle’s daughter, for she had neither father nor mother. The young woman was beautiful and of good appearance. And when her father and mother died, Mordeḵai took her as his own daughter.


You do not give the weary water to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry.

“But give in kindness of that which is within, and see, all are clean to you.


for some were supposing, because Yehuḏah had the bag, that יהושע was saying to him, “Buy what we need for the festival,” or that he should give somewhat to the poor.


And the group of those who believed were of one heart and one being. And no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they had all in common.


imparting to the needs of the set-apart ones, pursuing kindness towards strangers.


Because the poor one does not cease from the land. Therefore I am commanding you, saying, ‘You shall certainly open your hand to your brother, to your poor and to your needy one, in your land.’ ”


“You shall richly supply him from your flock, and from your threshing-floor, and from your winepress. With that which יהוה has blessed you with, give to him.


Clean and undefiled religion before the Elohim and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.


But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his tender affections from him, how does the love of Elohim stay in him?
