5 “Why then has this people, Yerushalayim, turned away in a continual backsliding? They are strengthened in deceit, they refuse to turn back.

Does one bear a grudge forever? Does one keep it to the end?’ See, you have spoken and done the evils that you could.”


As a cage is filled with birds, so their houses are filled with deceit. Therefore they have become great and grown rich.


O יהוה, are Your eyes not on truth? You have stricken them, but they have not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive instruction. They made their faces stronger than rock, they refused to turn back.


Therefore a lion from the forest shall strike them, a wolf of the deserts ravage them. A leopard is watching over their cities, whoever comes out of them is torn in pieces. For their transgressions have been many, their backslidings have been numerous.


“And I raised up watchmen over you, and said, ‘Listen to a voice of a shophar!’ But they said, ‘We do not listen.’


“Hear, O earth! See, I am bringing evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not listened to My words, nor My Torah – and they rejected it.


“You live in the midst of deceit; through deceit they have refused to know Me,” declares יהוה.


“And all Yisra’ĕl have transgressed Your Torah, and turned aside, so as not to obey Your voice. So the curse and the oath written in the Torah of Mosheh the servant of Elohim have been poured out on us, for we have sinned against Him.


“No, let him return to the land of Mitsrayim, and let Ashshur be his sovereign, because they refused to repent!


“My people are bent towards backsliding from Me. Though they call to the One Above, none of them exalt Him.


And now they sin more and more, and make for themselves moulded images from their silver, idols according to their skill, all of them the work of craftsmen. They say of them, “Let the men who slaughter kiss the calves!”


“For Yisra’ĕl is stubborn, like a stubborn calf. Would יהוה now feed them like a lamb in a broad place?


“But they refused to listen, and they shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears from hearing.


“But you do not desire to come to Me in order to possess life.


prove them all. Hold fast what is good.


Take heed not to refuse the One speaking. For if those did not escape who refused the warning on earth, much less we who turn away from Him from heaven,


“But hold fast what you have until I come.
