Are You greater than our father Aḇraham, who died? And the prophets died. Whom do You make Yourself?


And he replied, “Men, brothers and fathers, listen: The Elohim of esteem appeared to our father Aḇraham when he was in Aram Naharayim, before he dwelt in Ḥaran,


Therefore by works of Torah no flesh shall be declared right before Him, for by the Torah is the knowledge of sin.


What, then, shall we say Aḇraham our father, to have found, according to the flesh?


and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of the belief which our father Aḇraham had in uncircumcision.


On account of this it is of belief, that it be according to favour, for the promise to be made certain to all the seed, not only to those who are of the Torah, but also to those who are of the belief of Aḇraham, who is father of us all –


By belief, Aḇraham, when he was tried, offered up Yitsḥaq, and he who had received the promises offered up his only brought-forth son,


But someone might say, “You have belief, and I have works.” Show me your belief without your works, and I shall show you my belief by my works.


You see, then, that a man is declared right by works, and not by belief alone.


So I took your father Aḇraham from beyond the River, and caused him to go through all the land of Kena‛an, and multiplied his offspring and gave him Yitsḥaq.
