7 “When there is a poor man with you, one of your brothers, within any of the gates in your land which יהוה your Elohim is giving you, do not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother,

Therefore the Yehuḏim of the villages who dwelt in the unwalled towns were making the fourteenth day of the new moon of Aḏar a good day of gladness and feasting, and for sending portions to one another.


as the days on which the Yehuḏim had rest from their enemies, as the new moon which was turned from sorrow to joy for them, and from mourning to a good day, that they should make them days of feasting and joy, of sending portions to one another and gifts to the poor.


“If you do lend silver to any of My people, the poor among you, you are not to be like one that lends on interest to him. Do not lay interest on him.


He who shows favour to the poor lends to יהוה, And He repays his deed.


Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, Let him also cry and not be heard.


if you extend your being to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted being, then your light shall dawn in the darkness, and your darkness be as noon.


‘And when your brother becomes poor, and his hand has failed with you, then you shall strengthen him, and he shall live with you, like a stranger or a sojourner.
