8 See to it that no one makes a prey of you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary matters of the world, and not according to Messiah.

“For thus said יהוה of hosts, Elohim of Yisra’ĕl, ‘Let not your prophets and your diviners who are in your midst deceive you, neither listen to the dreams which you are dreaming.


“But beware of men, for they shall deliver you up to sanhedrins and flog you in their congregations.


And יהושע said to them, “Mind! And beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.”


“But beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are savage wolves.


And some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some were saying, “What does this babbler wish to say?” Others said, “He seems to be a proclaimer of strange mighty ones” – because to them he brought the Good News: יהושע and the resurrection!

Now I call upon you, brothers, watch out for those who cause divisions and stumbling, contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them.


so that he who thinks he stands, let him take heed lest he fall.


But look to it, lest somehow this right of yours becomes a stumbling-block to those who are weak.


overthrowing reasonings and every high matter that exalts itself against the knowledge of Elohim, taking captive every thought to make it obedient to the Messiah,


And I progressed in Yehuḏaism beyond many of my age in my race, being more exceedingly ardent for the traditions of my fathers.


So we also, when we were children, were under the elementary matters of the world, being enslaved.


But now after you have known Elohim, or rather are known by Elohim, how do you turn again to the weak and poor elementary matters, to which you wish to be enslaved again?


And if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!


in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience,


But you have not so learned Messiah,


Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these the wrath of Elohim comes upon the sons of disobedience.


be on guard, lest you forget יהוה who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, from the house of bondage.


Look out for dogs, look out for the evil workers, look out for the mutilation!


Let no one deprive you of the prize, one who takes delight in false humility and worship of messengers, taking his stand on what he has not seen, puffed up by his fleshly mind,


If, then, you died with Messiah from the elementary matters of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to dogmas:


which are all to perish with use – according to the commands and teachings of men?


These indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed worship, humiliation and harsh treatment of the body – of no value at all, only for satisfaction of the flesh.


O Timotiyos! Watch over that which has been entrusted to you, turning aside from the profane and empty babblings and contradictions of the falsely called ‘knowledge,’


But evil men and impostors shall go on to the worse, leading astray and being led astray.


Do not be borne about by various and strange teachings. For it is good for the heart to be established by favour, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.


Look out, brothers, lest there be in any of you a wicked heart of unbelief in falling away from the living Elohim,


knowing that you were redeemed from your futile behaviour inherited from your fathers, not with what is corruptible, silver or gold,


You, then, beloved ones, being forewarned, watch, lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the delusion of the lawless,


See to yourselves, that we do not lose what we worked for, but that we might receive a complete reward.
