2 Chronicles 18:7 - The Scriptures 2009

7 And the sovereign of Yisra’ĕl said to Yehoshaphat, “There is still one man to inquire of יהוה from him; but I hate him, because he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil. He is Miḵayehu, the son of Yimla.” And Yehoshaphat said, “Let not the sovereign say so!”

And it came to be, when Aḥaḇ saw Ěliyahu, that Aḥaḇ said to him, “Is that you, O disturber of Yisra’ĕl?”


And it came to be, while Izeḇel cut down the prophets of יהוה, that Oḇaḏyahu had taken one hundred prophets and hidden them, fifty to a cave, and had fed them with bread and water.


And he said, “I have been very jealous for יהוה Elohim of hosts, for the children of Yisra’ĕl have forsaken Your covenant. They have thrown down Your slaughter-places, and they have killed Your prophets with the sword, and I am left, I alone, and they seek my life, to take it.”


And Aḥaḇ said to Ěliyahu, “Have you found me, O my enemy?” And he answered, “I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of יהוה:


And the sovereign of Yisra’ĕl said to Yehoshaphat, “There is still one man, Miḵayehu son of Yimlah, to inquire of יהוה by him. But I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” And Yehoshaphat said, “Let not the sovereign say so!”


And it came to be, when Yehoram saw Yĕhu, that he said, “Is there peace, Yĕhu?” But he answered, “What peace, as long as the whorings of your mother Izeḇel and her witchcraft are so many?”


And Miḵayehu said, “As יהוה lives, whatever my Elohim says, that I speak.”


But Yehoshaphat said, “Is there not still a prophet of יהוה here, so that we inquire of him?”


So the sovereign of Yisra’ĕl called one of his officers and said, “Bring Miḵahu son of Yimla at once!”


Taw Evil does slay the wrong, And those who hate the righteous are guilty.


Because of the noise of the enemy, Because of the outcry of the wrong; For they bring down wickedness upon me, And in wrath they hate me.


Rescue me out of the mire, And let me not sink. Let me be rescued from those who hate me, And out of the deep waters.


A ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, Is a wise one’s reproof to an ear that hears.


Bloodthirsty men hate the perfect, And seek the life of the straight.


Do not reprove a scoffer, lest he hate you; Reprove a wise one, and he loves you.


who say to the seers, “Do not see,” and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us what is right. Speak to us what is smooth, prophesy deceits.


Then they said, “Come and let us devise plans against Yirmeyahu, for the Torah shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not listen to any of his words.”


Then the heads said to the sovereign, “Please, let this man be put to death, because he is weakening the hands of the men of battle who are left in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking such words to them. For this man does not seek the peace of this people, but the evil.”


They hated the one who reproves in the gate, and they despise the one who speaks the truth.


“Are you called ‘House of Ya‛aqoḇ’? Has the Spirit of יהוה been limited? Are these His doings? Do not My words do good to the one walking uprightly?


And the sovereign straightaway sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought. And he went and beheaded him in prison,


“Blessed are you when men shall hate you, and when they shall cut you off, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as wicked, for the sake of the Son of Aḏam.


If I did not do among them the works which no one else did, they would have no sin. But now they have both seen and have hated both Me and My Father,”


“It is impossible for the world to hate you, but it hates Me because I bear witness of it, that its works are wicked.


So then, have I become your enemy, speaking truth to you?
