13 And Dawiḏ said to Gaḏ, “I am in great trouble. Please let me fall into the hand of יהוה, for His compassion is very great, but do not let me fall into the hand of man.”

And the servant of the man of Elohim rose early and went out, and saw an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, “Oh, my master! What do we do?”


“If we shall say, ‘Let us go into the city,’ the scarcity of food is in the city, and we shall die there. And if we sit here, we shall die. And now, come, let us surrender to the army of the Arameans. If they keep us alive, we live. And if they kill us, we shall die.”


But a prophet of יהוה was there, whose name was Oḏĕḏ. And he went out before the army that came to Shomeron, and said to them, “See, because יהוה Elohim of your fathers was displeased with Yehuḏah, He has given them into your hand, and you have killed them in a rage that reaches up to the heavens.


“All the sovereign’s servants and the people of the sovereign’s provinces know that any man or woman who goes into the inner court to the sovereign, who has not been called, he has but one law: to be put to death, except the one to whom the sovereign holds out the golden sceptre, who then shall live. But I have not been called to come in to the sovereign these thirty days.”


“Go, gather all the Yehuḏim who are present in Shushan, and fast for me, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I too, and my young women shall fast in the same way, then I shall go to the sovereign, which is against the law. And if I shall perish, I shall perish!”


יהוה is compassionate and showing favour, Patient, and great in loving-commitment.


Our fathers in Mitsrayim did not understand Your wonders; They did not remember Your many loving-commitments, But rebelled by the sea, the Sea of Reeds.


Your compassions are many, O יהוה; Revive me according to Your right-rulings.


But with You there is forgiveness, That You might be feared.


O Yisra’ĕl, wait for יהוה; For with יהוה there is loving-commitment. And with Him is much redemption,


But I, I enter Your house In the greatness of Your loving-commitment; I bow myself toward Your set-apart Hĕḵal in Your fear.


But as for me, my prayer is to You, O יהוה, At an acceptable time, O Elohim. In the greatness of Your loving-commitment, Answer me in the truth of Your deliverance.


Answer me, O יהוה, for Your loving-commitment is good. According to the greatness of Your compassion, turn to me.


But You, O יהוה, Are a compassionate Ěl and showing favour, Patient and great in loving-commitment and truth.


For You, יהוה, are good, and ready to forgive, And great in loving-commitment to all those who call upon You.


The righteous regards the life of his beast, But the compassion of the wrong is cruelty.


“They bear it on the shoulder, they carry it and set it in its place, and it stands – from its place it does not move. Though one cries out to it, it does not answer, nor save him from his distress.


“I was wroth with My people, I have profaned My inheritance and I gave them into your hand. You showed them no compassion, you made your yoke very heavy on the elderly.


Let the wrong forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts. Let him return to יהוה, who has compassion on him, and to our Elohim, for He pardons much.


Look down from the heavens, and see from Your set-apart and comely dwelling. Where are Your ardour and Your might, the stirring of Your inward parts and Your compassion toward me? Are they withheld?


Let me recount the loving-commitments of יהוה and the praises of יהוה, according to all that יהוה has done for us, and the great goodness toward the house of Yisra’ĕl, which He has done for them according to His compassion, and according to His many loving-commitments.


For though He afflicted, Yet He shall show compassion According to the greatness of His loving-commitments.


“Who knows whether Elohim does turn and relent, and shall turn away from the heat of His displeasure, so that we do not perish?”


And he prayed to יהוה, and he said, “Please, יהוה, was this not what I said while I was in my own land? This is why I went ahead and fled to Tarshish. For I know that You are an Ěl showing favour, and compassionate, patient and of great loving-commitment, and relenting from doing evil.


Who is an Ěl like You – taking away crookedness and passing over the transgression of the remnant of His inheritance? He shall not retain His wrath forever, for He Himself delights in loving-commitment.


O יהוה, I have heard your report, I was afraid. O יהוה, renew Your work in the midst of the years! Make it known in the midst of the years. In wrath remember compassion.


“Now I Myself am troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this reason I came to this hour.


For I am pressed down by the two, having a desire to depart and be with Messiah, which is much better,


It is fearsome to fall into the hands of the living Elohim.
