10 But when Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard this, it displeased them greatly that some one had come to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.

And one of the sons of Jehoiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was the son-in-law of Sanballat the Horonite; therefore I chased him from me.

And when all our enemies heard of it, all the nations round about us were afraid and fell greatly in their own esteem; for they perceived that this work had been accomplished with the help of our God.


For Mordecai the Jew was next in rank to King Ahasu-erus, and he was great among the Jews and popular with the multitude of his brethren, for he sought the welfare of his people and spoke peace to all his people.


The wicked man sees it and is angry; he gnashes his teeth and melts away; the desire of the wicked man comes to naught.


Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming; but who can stand before jealousy?

For at the ascent of Luhith they go up weeping; for at the descent of Horonaim they have heard the cry of destruction.


annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.


Now when the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were much perplexed about them, wondering what this would come to.
