Jeremiah 31:20 - Revised Standard Version

20 Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he my darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I do remember him still. Therefore my heart yearns for him; I will surely have mercy on him, says the Lord.

Then Joseph made haste, for his heart yearned for his brother, and he sought a place to weep. And he entered his chamber and wept there.


Then the woman whose son was alive said to the king, because her heart yearned for her son, “Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and by no means slay it.” But the other said, “It shall be neither mine nor yours; divide it.”


As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear him.

then I will reject the descendants of Jacob and David my servant and will not choose one of his descendants to rule over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes, and will have mercy upon them.”


Therefore my heart moans for Moab like a flute, and my heart moans like a flute for the men of Kir-heres; therefore the riches they gained have perished.


The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end;


Say to them, As I live, says the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways; for why will you die, O house of Israel?


I will heal their faithlessness; I will love them freely, for my anger has turned from them.


Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not spurn them, neither will I abhor them so as to destroy them utterly and break my covenant with them; for I am the Lord their God;


for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to make merry.


It was fitting to make merry and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.’ ”


For the Lord will vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants, when he sees that their power is gone, and there is none remaining, bond or free.


For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.


So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord; and he became indignant over the misery of Israel.
