Genesis 22:12 - Revised Standard Version

12 He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.”

And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son.


and said, “By myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this, and have not withheld your son, your only son,


He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering upon one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

On the third day Joseph said to them, “Do this and you will live, for I fear God:


The former governors who were before me laid heavy burdens upon the people, and took from them food and wine, besides forty shekels of silver. Even their servants lorded it over the people. But I did not do so, because of the fear of God.


There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, one who feared God, and turned away from evil.


And he said to man, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.’ ”


He will deliver you from six troubles; in seven there shall no evil touch you.


for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.


The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who practice it. His praise endures for ever!


but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.


Serve the Lord with fear, with trembling


Who is the man that fears the Lord? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose.


The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant.


And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to prove you, and that the fear of him may be before your eyes, that you may not sin.”


The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.


The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.


and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not command or decree, nor did it come into my mind;


I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them; and I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me.

Then Jesus told his disciples, “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.


And every one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.


Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.


For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.


So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was built up; and walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit it was multiplied.


But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.


He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, will he not also give us all things with him?


No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.


For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a man has, not according to what he has not.


He considered that God was able to raise men even from the dead; hence, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back.


Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe;


But some one will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith.


And from the throne came a voice crying, “Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, small and great.”


And Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
