Now these are the descendants of Terah. Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran was the father of Lot.


Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, while Lot dwelt among the cities of the valley and moved his tent as far as Sodom.


Then the men set out from there, and they looked toward Sodom; and Abraham went with them to set them on their way.


So the men turned from there, and went toward Sodom; but Abraham still stood before the Lord.


But the men put forth their hands and brought Lot into the house to them, and shut the door.


and said, “My lords, turn aside, I pray you, to your servant's house and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise up early and go on your way.” They said, “No; we will spend the night in the street.”


Then Abraham bowed down before the people of the land.


Then Joseph removed them from his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth.


When I went out to the gate of the city, when I prepared my seat in the square,


(the sojourner has not lodged in the street; I have opened my doors to the wayfarer);


I am the talk of those who sit in the gate, and the drunkards make songs about me.

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.


And Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there; and behold, the next of kin, of whom Boaz had spoken, came by. So Boaz said, “Turn aside, friend; sit down here”; and he turned aside and sat down.
