I know, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness; in the uprightness of my heart I have freely offered all these things, and now I have seen thy people, who are present here, offering freely and joyously to thee.


Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he have mercy upon us.


Teach me thy way, O Lord, that I may walk in thy truth; unite my heart to fear thy name.


“A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is my fear? says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. You say, ‘How have we despised thy name?’


“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light;


“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.


For I am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”


And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they partook of food with glad and generous hearts,


For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brethren, my kinsmen by race.


And I was with you in weakness and in much fear and trembling;


For he who was called in the Lord as a slave is a freedman of the Lord. Likewise he who was free when called is a slave of Christ.


For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience that we have behaved in the world, and still more toward you, with holiness and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God.


And his heart goes out all the more to you, as he remembers the obedience of you all, and the fear and trembling with which you received him.


Wives, be subject to your husbands, as to the Lord.


Grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with love undying.


Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;


no longer as a slave but more than a slave, as a beloved brother, especially to me but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.


“Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness; put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.
