But the royal spokesman said to them, ‘Has my master sent me to speak these words only to your master and to you? Hasn’t he also sent me to the men who sit on the wall, destined with you to eat their own excrement and drink their own urine? ’


By the ninth day of the fourth month the famine was so severe in the city that the common people had no food.


Therefore my people will go into exile because they lack knowledge; her  dignitaries are starving, and her masses are parched with thirst.


Their nobles send their servants  for water. They go to the cisterns; they find no water; their containers return empty. They are ashamed and humiliated; they cover their heads.


All her people groan while they search for bread. They have traded their precious belongings for food in order to stay alive. Lord, look and see how I have become despised.


“We are wiping off even the dust of your town that clings to our feet as a witness against you.   Know this for certain: The kingdom of God has come near.”


you will serve your enemies that the Lord will send against you, in famine, thirst, nakedness, and a lack of everything. He will place an iron yoke  on your neck until he has destroyed you.


They will be weak from hunger, ravaged by pestilence and bitter plague; I will unleash on them wild beasts with fangs, as well as venomous snakes that slither in the dust.
