11 In the presence of all the people Hananiah proclaimed, ‘This is what the Lord says: “In this way, within two years I will break the yoke of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon from the neck of all the nations.” ’ The prophet Jeremiah then went on his way.

He said to him, ‘I am also a prophet  like you. An angel spoke to me by the word of the Lord: “Bring him back with you to your house so that he may eat food and drink water.” ’ The old prophet deceived him,


So the king of Israel gathered the prophets, about four hundred men,  and asked them, ‘Should I go against Ramoth-gilead for war or should I refrain? ’ They replied, ‘March up, and the Lord will hand it over to the king.’


Then Zedekiah son of Chenaanah made iron horns and said, ‘This is what the Lord says: You will gore the Arameans with these until they are finished off.’


Stay away from a foolish person; you will gain no knowledge from his speech.


But the Lord said to me, ‘These prophets are prophesying a lie in my name. I did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a false vision, worthless divination, the deceit  of their own minds.


They keep on saying to those who despise me,  “The Lord has spoken: You will have peace.”  They have said to everyone who follows the stubbornness of his heart, “No harm will come to you.” ’


The prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah, ‘Listen, Hananiah! The Lord did not send you, but you have led these people to trust in a lie.


for they are prophesying falsely to you in my name. I have not sent them.’  This is the Lord’s declaration.


Didn’t you see a false vision and speak a lying divination when you proclaimed, ‘This is the Lord’s declaration,’ even though I had not spoken?
