And Qayin knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Ḥanoḵ. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son, Ḥanoḵ.


And Aḇshalom in his lifetime had taken and set up a monument for himself, which is in the Sovereign’s Valley. For he said, “I have no son to keep my name in remembrance.” And he called the monument after his own name. And to this day it is called Aḇshalom’s Monument.


He has said in his heart, “I shall not be moved; From generation to generation, never be in evil!”


“And now, יהוה, what do I wait for? My expectancy is in You.


For there is no stability in their mouth; Their inward part is destruction; Their throat is an open burial-site; They flatter with their tongue.


They search out unrighteousnesses, “We have perfected a well searched out plan.” For the inward part of man, and heart, are deep.


The wise one’s eyes are in his head, but the fool walks in darkness. And I also knew that one event befalls them all.


For a man might labour with wisdom, knowledge, and skill; yet he leaves his heritage to a man who has not laboured for it. That too is futile and a great evil.


Thus said the Master יהוה, “And it shall be in that day that words arise in your heart, and you shall devise an evil plan:

“Repent therefore of this evil of yours, and plead with Elohim to forgive you the intention of your heart.


“Ya‛ir son of Menashsheh had taken all the district of Argoḇ, as far as the border of the Geshurites and the Ma‛aḵathites, and called them after his own name: the Bashan of Hawoth Ya‛ir, to this day.


And Shemu’ĕl rose early in the morning to meet Sha’ul, and it was told to Shemu’ĕl, saying, “Sha’ul went to Karmel, and see, he set up a monument for himself, then turned and passed over, and went down to Gilgal.”
