And also, Yoshiyahu put away those who consulted mediums and spiritists, and the household mighty ones and idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Yehuḏah and in Yerushalayim, in order to establish the words of the Torah which were written in the book that Ḥilqiyahu the priest found in the House of יהוה.
I give it into the hand of the mighty one of the nations, and he shall certainly deal with it. I have driven it out for its wrong.
‘Do not defile yourselves with all these, for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am driving out before you.
‘Thus the land became defiled, therefore I punished it for its crookedness, and the land vomited out its inhabitants.
because the men of the land who were before you have done all these abominations, and thus the land became defiled,
“And do not forsake the Lĕwite who is within your gates, for he has no part nor inheritance with you.
“A woman does not wear that which pertains to a man, nor does a man put on a woman’s garment, for whoever does this is an abomination to יהוה your Elohim.
“Do not think in your heart, after יהוה your Elohim has driven them out before you, saying, ‘Because of my righteousness יהוה has brought me in to possess this land.’ But it is because of the wrong of these nations that יהוה is driving them out from before you.
“It is not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart that you go in to possess their land, but because of the wrong of these nations that יהוה your Elohim drives them out from before you, in order to establish the word which יהוה swore to your fathers, to Aḇraham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Ya‛aqoḇ.
