May he defend the cause of the poor of the people, give deliverance to the needy, and crush the oppressor.


The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.


Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but those who are kind to the needy honor him.


Do not remove an ancient landmark or encroach on the fields of orphans,


Father and mother are treated with contempt in you; the alien residing within you suffers extortion; the orphan and the widow are wronged in you.


And the slave said, ‘Sir, what you ordered has been done, and there is still room.’


But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who oppress you? Is it not they who drag you into court?
