He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth. Like a lamb led to the slaughter and like a sheep silent before her shearers, he did not open his mouth.


But  Jesus kept silent.  The high priest said to him, ‘I charge you under oath  by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.’


Then  the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the governor’s residence and gathered the whole company  around him.


So he kept asking him questions, but Jesus did not answer him.


Then  they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the governor’s headquarters.  It was early morning. They did not enter the headquarters themselves; otherwise they would be defiled and unable to eat the Passover.


Then Pilate went back into the headquarters, summoned Jesus, and said to him, ‘Are you the king of the Jews? ’


Jesus answered, ‘Are you asking this on your own, or have others told you about me? ’


‘You are a king then? ’ Pilate asked. ‘You say that I’m a king,’ Jesus replied. ‘I was born for this, and I have come into the world   for this: to testify   to the truth.   Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.’


So Pilate said to him, ‘Do you refuse to speak to me? Don’t you know that I have the authority to release you and the authority to crucify you? ’


When Pilate heard this statement, he was more afraid than ever.


‘Even if I testify about myself,’ Jesus replied, ‘my testimony is true, because I know where I came from and where I’m going. But you don’t know where I come from or where I’m going.


not being frightened in any way by your opponents.  This is a sign of destruction for them,  but of your salvation   #– #and this is from God.


Then the woman went and told her husband, ‘A man of God came to me. He looked like the awe-inspiring angel of God. I didn’t ask him where he came from, and he didn’t tell me his name.
