What is the verse about casting our crowns before the feet of Jesus?

Answer

Revelation 4:10–11 is part of the vision Jesus gave John. In this heavenly scene, we witness “the twenty-four elders falling down before Him who sits on the throne and worshiping Him who lives forever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and proclaim: ‘You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being.’”

Jesus promised various rewards for those who serve Him faithfully on earth (Matthew 5:12;1 Corinthians 3:14;Revelation 22:12). Some of these rewards include crowns (James 1:12;1 Peter 5:4;Revelation 3:11). These crowns may be similar to the ones John witnessed the elders laying at Jesus’ feet. Through their worshipful words, they express that, despite their earthly deeds to earn these crowns, only Jesus is genuinely deserving of glory and honor. In the presence of the Lord Jesus Himself, all our good deeds will appear insignificant. A crown will seem like a small token to offer to the One who sacrificed His life for us «I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me. », (Galatians 2:20).

The elders’ reaction is likely how we will all respond upon receiving our reward from Jesus. We will be overwhelmed with gratitude for what He has done for us, leading to spontaneous worship. Regardless of our earthly struggles, a valuable crown will appear insignificant, yet it will be the most meaningful gift we can offer Him.

Although the Scriptures do not explicitly state it, it is probable that we will all emulate the twenty-four elders by casting our crowns at Jesus’ feet.
