The Bible strongly condemns spiritism, mediums, the occult, and psychics (Leviticus 20:27; Deuteronomy 18:10-13). Horoscopes, tarot cards, astrology, fortune tellers, palm readings, and séances fall into this category as well. These practices are based on the belief that there are gods, spirits, or deceased loved ones that can offer advice and guidance. These “gods” or “spirits” are demons (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). The Bible provides no basis to think that deceased loved ones can communicate with us. If they were believers, they are in heaven experiencing the most wonderful place imaginable in communion with a loving God. If they were not believers, they are in hell, enduring eternal torment for rejecting God’s love and rebelling against Him.
Therefore, if our loved ones cannot communicate with us, how do mediums, spiritists, and psychics obtain such precise information? There have been numerous instances of psychics being exposed as frauds. It has been demonstrated that psychics can gather vast amounts of information about someone through conventional means. Sometimes, simply by using a telephone number from caller ID and conducting an internet search, a psychic can acquire names, addresses, dates of birth, marriage dates, family members, and more. Nevertheless, it is undeniable that psychics occasionally possess knowledge that should be unattainable to them. Where do they acquire this information? The answer is from Satan and his demons. “And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their ultimate fate will be.””What their actions deserve” (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). Acts 16:16-18 describes a fortune teller who was able to predict the future until the apostle Paul rebuked a demon out of her.
Satan pretends to be kind and helpful. He tries to appear as something good. Satan and his demons will give a psychic information about a person to lure that person into spiritism, something that God forbids. It may seem innocent at first, but individuals can quickly become addicted to psychics and unknowingly allow Satan to control and ruin their lives. Peter advised, “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” «Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: », (1 Peter 5:8). Sometimes, the psychics themselves are deceived, unaware of the true source of the information they receive. Regardless of the circumstances and the origin of the information, anything related to spiritism, witchcraft, or astrology is not a godly way to seek guidance. How does God want us to discern His will for our lives? God’s plan is straightforward yet potent and reliable: study the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16-17) and pray for wisdom «If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. », (James 1:5).
