Noetic science is a field within parapsychology that explores the nature and origin of human intelligence, including the impact of thoughts on the physical world. The term “noetic” pertains to the mind and how individuals employ their intellect. It is commonly used to describe the essence of intellect, especially on a foundational or metaphysical level. Consequently, the term “noetic” is frequently utilized in contexts unrelated to noetic science. In a philosophical sense, “noetics” denotes a branch of metaphysics, while “noetic science” specifically relates to the realm of parapsychology.
Communities dedicated to studying noetic science delve into subjects like telepathy, telekinesis, precognition, and self-healing. Despite assertions to the contrary, extensive scientific investigations have deemed most of these subjects to be fictitious. This characterization places noetic science at best as pseudoscience and at worst as science fiction.
The enduring appeal of superstitions such as noetic science can be elucidated by passages like 2 Timothy 4:3. Instead of acknowledging spiritual and physical truths, individuals often seek out a “teacher” who will confirm their preconceived beliefs. Rather than pursuing genuine truth, they crave validation “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:”, (Romans 1:20). While not explicitly linked to any specific anti-Christian ideologies, the assertions of noetic science are deemed unwise and unhelpful (1 Corinthians 6:12;1 Timothy 4:7) and should not form part of a Christian’s worldview.
