The Bible teaches about the existence of an immaterial, spiritual reality that is unseen by human eyes. The physical reality is apparent for everyone to see—although some question the existence of a material universe as well! According to the Bible, the spiritual realm comprises both good—God and the holy angels—and evil—the devil and his demons. Demons are likely fallen angels who rebelled against God and were cast out of heaven (see Ezekiel 28:11-17; Isaiah 14:12-15; Revelation 12:7-9). The Bible also teaches that humans were created by God in His image, which implies we have a spiritual aspect “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”, (Genesis 1:27). We are more than just physical beings; we possess a soul/spirit that is destined for eternity. Even though the spiritual realm is invisible to the naked eye, we are interconnected with it, and what occurs in the spiritual realm directly impacts our physical world.

In our society, the most widely accepted form of evidence for establishing the existence of something is empirical evidence, which entails utilizing the scientific method of observation and experimentation. Is there empirical evidence for a spiritual realm? It doesn’t take much investigation before one realizes there is “evidence” both supporting and refuting the existence of a spiritual realm. It ultimately depends on which studies one chooses to believe.

The most compelling and widespread evidence supporting the existence of a spiritual realm is testimonial evidence. We can observe the multitude of religions worldwide and the billions of individuals who center their lives around the spiritual realm. Is it plausible that so many people would report eEncounters with the spiritual realm: could it not be real?

The most compelling evidence for a spiritual realm is found in the Bible itself. Historians, whether Christian or non-Christian, concur that the historical accuracy of the Bible is robust. Jesus asserted to be the Son of God, the One who descended from heaven. He made this point unequivocally clear: “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world” «And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. », (John 8:23). The Bible records numerous instances of people encountering the spiritual realm. Jesus routinely expelled demons from individuals, cured the sick through spoken words, performed miraculous feedings for thousands, and conversed with individuals who were presumed deceased: Moses and Elijah (Matthew 17:1-3). These occurrences all point to the reality of the spiritual realm.
