Answer
Tithing is presented in the Scriptures as a model for how individuals should acknowledge God’s blessings. Many people wonder if tithing is still relevant for present-day believers, given that we are not “under the law.” Despite this distinction, many believers view it as a privilege to give proportionately to the Lord’s work, using the tithe as a guide. While the New Testament does not specify percentages for churches, the concept of giving in proportion is mentioned (1 Corinthians 16:2;2 Corinthians 8). Additionally, the New Testament documents believers in the early church collecting funds to support other ministries.
Although there is no direct verse mandating that churches tithe to other ministries, it appears that churches and other ministries should generously support other works as they prosper. For some churches, allocating a specific portion of their budget to “external ministries” helps them maintain an outward focus. Therefore, it would not be uncommon for a church or ministry to allocate a tithe (10%) or another percentage to missions. However, this practice should not be viewed as a legalistic obligation but rather as a joyful response to the Lord’s provision.
