How should Christians respond when someone claims to be Jesus reincarnated?

Answer

Every so often, someone claims to be the reincarnation of Jesus. Some of these individuals even bear a resemblance to popular artistic depictions of Jesus. Temporarily, these claimants of being “Jesus reincarnated” gather followers. Eventually, all of them are exposed as the frauds and charlatans they are, for various reasons. It is challenging to uphold the facade of a flawless life. How should Christians, and non-Christians as well, react when someone asserts to be Jesus reincarnated?

The initial point to acknowledge is that reincarnation is not a biblical concept. The Bible teaches that everyone dies and then faces judgment “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”, (Hebrews 9:27). The notion of a cycle involving death and reincarnation, in which people are ensnared, originates from Hinduism and Buddhism. It has never been a Christian or biblical doctrine. The second coming of Jesus Christ will not be a reincarnation of Jesus.

The second coming of Jesus Christ is elaborately described in Revelation 19:11–16. It is not a reincarnation of Jesus; it is Jesus Himself returning in all His glory. During the second coming, Jesus is not “reborn” into the world; He does not arrive as an infant as He did in His first coming. Instead, Jesus returns in the same glorified body He ascended with “which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”, (Acts 1:11). The Bible also teaches that Jesus’ return will coincide with a period of great worldwide turmoil. His second coming will occur at the conclusion of the Great Tribulation. Jesus’ return will be as a triumphant

Jesus warned us about the presence of many false messiahs. Anyone who claims to be the reincarnation of Jesus is considered a false messiah. In Luke 17:23–24, Jesus stated, “People will say to you, ‘Look, there he is!’ or ‘Here he is!’ Do not run after them. For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other, so will be the Son of Man in his day.” Refer also to Matthew 24:23–25. Jesus is emphasizing that His second coming will be unmistakable, leaving no room for doubt. It will be as evident as a powerful lightning strike in the darkness of night.

Anyone who asserts to be the reincarnation of Jesus is a deceiver, a fraud, a false prophet, and a false messiah. Do not listen to them or offer them any financial support. Reincarnation is a concept that lacks biblical support. The return of Jesus, as outlined in the Bible, bears no resemblance to reincarnation. Jesus was born once, died once, and now stands as the Resurrected One who is “alive forever and ever!” «I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.», (Revelation 1:18).
