Answer
There is no doubt that a world war will be a part of the future. Christ plainly taught that there would be war before His return (Matthew 24:4-31). Some believe He spoke generally of the Church age in verses 4-14 and of the tribulation period starting at its midpoint in verses 15-31. Others believe Christ spoke only of the seven-year period known as the tribulation in verses 4-31. Although verses 4-14 seem to provide general descriptions, they align with the details given early in Revelation 6, which describes the beginning of the tribulation. Matthew 24:6-7 states there will be “wars and rumors of wars…For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes.” Here, Christ clearly indicates that war will have a significant role in the last seven years before His return.
To be more precise, the future holds at least one more world war. Scripture does not specify that there will be only a certain number of world wars. World Wars I and II are not explicitly mentioned in Scripture, nor is a potential third World War. It is only the final war that is detailed, leaving room for the interpretation that there may be others before the ultimate conflict.
John the Apostle was shown what the end times would be like, particularly the last seven years before Christ’s return. Starting in Revelation 6, he documented what he witnessed regarding the future. War is depicted in this chapter and remains a part of the unfolding events until Christ returns in chapter 19 (Revelation 6:2;4;11:7;12:7;13:4,7;16:14;17:14;19:11;19:19).
Revelation 19:11 says, “. . . in ri”Righteousness He [Christ] judges and wages war.” Revelation 19:19 states that John “saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies, gathered to engage in battle against Him (Christ) who sat upon the horse, and against His army.” It is important to note that it mentions the kings of the earth and their armies coming together to fight against Christ. This clearly depicts a global conflict. It is also significant to highlight that the ultimate victor in this conflict is undoubtedly Christ, who captures the beast/antichrist and the false prophet and throws them into the lake of fire, while the armies that followed them are vanquished (Revelation 19:20-21). Therefore, despite the certainty of at least one more global conflict, the result is unquestionable—righteousness will triumph as Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, overcomes all who resist Him.
Additionally, it is noteworthy that following the 1,000-year rule of Christ, there will be another rebellion that could potentially escalate into a global conflict. Satan will be restrained for 1,000 years and then set free. Upon his release, he foments a revolt among the inhabitants of the earth. Christ promptly suppresses this rebellion and definitively judges Satan, casting him into the lake of fire just as He did with the beast/antichrist and the false prophet (Revelation 20:7-10).
