Can demons attach themselves to non-living/inanimate objects?

Answer

There is no biblical support for the idea that demons can attach themselves to physical objects. This belief is actually a part of superstitious practices and occult beliefs found in animistic cultures and among those who practice the occult.

Some argue that verses such as Acts 19:19, where former magicians burned their magic books, prove that objects can harbor demons. However, the passage does not explicitly state that. It is more likely that these new believers were burning their magic books to prevent the spread of falsehoods and to demonstrate their newfound faith in Jesus.

The Bible recounts instances of demons afflicting or possessing unbelieving individuals. Nevertheless, there are no instances of demons residing in or being attached to objects, and the Bible does not caution us about demons latching onto objects. Occult practices may draw in evil spirits, and since certain objects are utilized in those practices, it may appear that the demons are drawn to the objects; nonetheless, this does not imply that the demons inhabit the objects. It is the occult activity itself that attracts them. When individuals who have been involved in the occult turn to Christ, they are often counseled to dispose of their occult books and objects, not because the objects contain demons, but because the books and objects could serve as a source of future temptation.

Believers in Christ are not to be afraid of demons, although we are to be watchful and alert for their temptations “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”, (1 Peter 5:8). The key is submission to God and walking in the truth of Christ daily: “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”, (James 4:7). Those who have placed their trust in Christ have nothing to be afraid of, as the apostle John stated, “You, dear children, are from God and have conquered [Satan and his false prophets], because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” «Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. », (1 John 4:4).
