“Their god doesn’t give a fig,” what atheists tell US politicians for them not to attend the Prayer Breakfast

Once again, atheist activists in the US are against the actions of faith shown in public places; This time he addressed political personalities, as they asked them to stop participating in the traditional National Prayer Breakfast.

For decades, both the president of the nation and members of the Republican and Democratic parties attend this event every year; recently, the atheist group Freedom From Religion Foundation, asked all those who sponsor the meeting to desist from continuing to attend both this and others in the future.

“Are we really still doing this in 2021?. Year after year, scandal after scandal, and still not a single prayer has been answered,” said FFRF co-president Annie Laurie Gaylor said in a statement.

With a disrespectful attitude, Gaylor went on to say that  “their god doesn’t give a fig for their mimosa-driven pleas,” because the separation of church and state is still disrespected while politics and faith mix.

“Please stop sponsoring and attending the National Prayer Breakfast,” is read in one copy of the letter sent to members of Congress.

This Breakfast takes place the first Thursday in February each year, in which the president in charge shares his faith in addition to showing with the other members an agreement between both parties on matters of spiritual importance.

This mixture between politicians and religion has caused atheists to be in anger for many years with this kind of events, which they continue to denounce for them not to take place, claiming that every year there is a violation of the law.

“Members of Congress who sponsor or attend the event in their official capacity unfortunately and perhaps inadvertently are sending a clear message that their office endorses the event’s religious message, in violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment,” says a part of that letter sent by FFRF.

“Russian spies, Christian nationalists and theocrats, anti-LGBTQ bigotry, influence-peddling, and a shadowy religious group known as The Family. The National Prayer Breakfast contains all of this,” said FFRF director of strategic response Andrew Seidel.

Seidel denounces that since 2016 and 2017, Russian spies have been introduced in the breakfasts and that they have been sent to create a type of communication between the European country and the North American nation in a secret way.

This event receives around 3,000 guests from around the world, who are sent through various organizations.

This tradition dates back to the government of President Dwight Eisenhower in 1953, who started this event that has continued for decades in each new North American administration, this being one of the most popular meetings in the city of Washington.
