“God was with me,” says heroine driver who saved children from a terrible explosion in their school bus

A 28-year-old school bus driver in Louisiana, who was praised as a heroine for rescuing children just before her bus caught fire, attributes her bravery to God’s protection.

“God was with me,” says heroine driver who saved children from a terrible explosion in their school bus

Kia Rousseve, a driver for the Community Academies of New Orleans, managed to save nine children on March 13. As shared on Good Morning America, her quick response came when the bus started behaving strangely.

“The bus started acting a little crazy, shaking and going very, very slow,” explained Rousseve.

When it stopped, she realized something was wrong.

“My instinct was telling me, ‘No, this is not normal.’ My instinct was telling me, ‘Stop the bus,’” she told NOLA.com.

It was then that someone rushed over to warn her about the flames coming from the vehicle. Rousseve quickly got the children out and to safety before an explosion could occur, according to GMA.

“I’m just happy and glad that God was with me and I got the kids off and got myself off the bus,” Rousseve told The Guardian.

The driver mentioned her aim to remain calm and composed during the harrowing situation, something she did with the children in mind.

“I had to remain calm for the kids, because they were crying and running in the street, and I had to gather them, you know, make sure that they were okay. We could have lost our lives. I’ve been thinking a lot about that,” she told Good Morning America.

She added, “Every time I look at the pictures and say, wow, my seat was the first thing that caught on fire.”

Her employer considers her a hero.

“Her ability to remain calm in the face of danger and ensure no child was harmed is heroic,” her supervisor reportedly mentioned.
