“Child Abuse”: Criticism and complaints against a bar that advertised a girl’s show dressed as a drag queen

An Oregon bar is being criticized for presenting a show in which an 11-year-old girl dresses and acts like a “drag queen”; apparently this is not the first time it has happened but now the criticism has unleashed a wave of outrage.

“Child Abuse”: Criticism and complaints against a bar that advertised a girl’s show dressed as a drag queen.

The Old Nick’s Pub bar, located in Eugene, Oregon, was strongly criticized for sharing images of Hannahlyn Engelson, who plays “Vanellope Craving” at the age of 11, a drag queen character who has received support from the LGBT community; all in support of a future presentation of the girl in a show within the place.

Wearing heavy make-up and dressing up in typical drag shows, she is supported by her mother, Jennifer Hibbs, who is also a drag queen under the name Sunshine Ray McPherson.

It was known that the girl had given performances previously and that she received payments from adults for her presentations, others assure that they were tips; Those who have known this story through social networks denounced these actions for both the bar and the mother, calling it “child abuse”, questioning the fact that Children’s Services has not taken action in this case.

About the girl’s performance, Old Nick’s Pub wrote the following:

“Are you excited for Drag queen story time brunch this Sunday morning!? Well, lets meet our performers! Vanellope is here to show you what a 11-year-old drag queen can do. With all the charm and sweetness of a bowl of sugary cereal, Vanellope is here to brighten up your morning with all her drag talent.”

Due to the number of negative comments, the page deleted some and condemned those who did not like the fact of “sexualizing a girl with makeup”.

“It all boils down to fundamental misogyny. We have limited our comments because many of them were becoming volatile, violent, and disgusting. And Vanellope does not need to see grown adults sexualizing her like that,” Old Nick’s Pub said.“Drag is an art form. The idea that it is inherently sexual is a form of bigotry. There are sexualized 21 plus drag shows, yes. But drag is for everyone,” reported Daily Mail.

“It’s traditionally an art form that is a performance of exaggerated femininity. As a society most people see feminine performance as sexual, even when it is not,” bar’s facebook site wrote in its defense.

Users on social media denounced that these types of acts are part of the child abuse that many children are suffering because of the LGBT movement, which is presented to them in an inoffensive way.

In this regard, the girl’s mother stated that the little girl is not subjected to any type of act for sexual purposes, and that she will defend her daughter from the authorities because “she is very protected.”

“Nothing Vanellope does is sexual. She wears costumes, lip syncs to her favorite songs, does acrobatic flips, and wears makeup when she wants to. Nothing about that is sexual. The [sic] are going to have to come through ME her MOTHER and her [sic] of Queens and LBGTQ+ [sic] Community she is FIERCELY protected!!!!,” commented MacPherson on the post who was previously crowned Ms Gay Oregon, as reported by the outlet.

There are already investigations into public venues allowing children in drag acts. These investigations were ordered by Gov. Ron DeSantis following the incident of a nearly naked LGBT dancer performing alongside a little girl.
