So the steward took away their [rich] dainties and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables.

Thereafter, Malasar took away their portions and their wine for drinking, and he gave them roots.

So the steward took away their food and the wine they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.

So from then on the guard let them continue to eat vegetables instead of what the king provided.

Then said Daniel to the steward whom the prince of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.
