By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”


Remember that you fashioned me like clay; and will you turn me to dust again?


Why do you hide your face, and count me as your enemy?


When he is quiet, who can condemn? When he hides his face, who can behold him, whether it be a nation or an individual?—


When their breath departs, they return to the earth; on that very day their plans perish.


By your favor, O Lord, you had established me as a strong mountain; you hid your face; I was dismayed.


You turn us back to dust, and say, “Turn back, you mortals.”


and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the breath returns to God who gave it.


nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mortals life and breath and all things.


My anger will be kindled against them in that day. I will forsake them and hide my face from them; they will become easy prey, and many terrible troubles will come upon them. In that day they will say, ‘Have not these troubles come upon us because our God is not in our midst?’
