So they made their father drink wine that night; and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; he did not know when she lay down or when she rose.


his eyes are darker than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk.


David invited him to eat and drink in his presence and made him drunk; and in the evening he went out to lie on his couch with the servants of his lord, but he did not go down to his house.


Then Absalom commanded his servants, “Watch when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, ‘Strike Amnon,’ then kill him. Do not be afraid; have I not myself commanded you? Be courageous and valiant.”


Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.


Do not be among winebibbers, or among gluttonous eaters of meat;


for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe them with rags.


Ah, you who rise early in the morning in pursuit of strong drink, who linger in the evening to be inflamed by wine,


Ah, you who are heroes in drinking wine and valiant at mixing drink,


Like thorns they are entangled, like drunkards they are drunk; they are consumed like dry straw.


Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit,
