The proverbs of Solomon. A wise child makes a glad father, but a foolish child is a mother's grief.


A child who gathers in summer is prudent, but a child who sleeps in harvest brings shame.


A slave who deals wisely will rule over a child who acts shamefully, and will share the inheritance as one of the family.


Foolish children are a grief to their father and bitterness to her who bore them.


Cease straying, my child, from the words of knowledge, in order that you may hear instruction.


Happy is the one who is never without fear, but one who is hard-hearted will fall into calamity.


Anyone who robs father or mother and says, “That is no crime,” is partner to a thug.


Those who keep the law are wise children, but companions of gluttons shame their parents.


There are those who curse their fathers and do not bless their mothers.


The eye that mocks a father and scorns to obey a mother will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley and eaten by the vultures.
