33 When Jacob ended his charge to his sons, he drew up his feet into the bed, breathed his last, and was gathered to his people.

He brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”


(This is the length of the life of Ishmael, one hundred thirty-seven years; he breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people.)


Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people.


And Isaac breathed his last; he died and was gathered to his people, old and full of days; and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.


Then Jacob called his sons, and said: “Gather around, that I may tell you what will happen to you in days to come.


Then he charged them, saying to them, “I am about to be gathered to my people. Bury me with my ancestors—in the cave in the field of Ephron the Hittite,


the field and the cave that is in it were purchased from the Hittites.”


Then Joseph threw himself on his father's face and wept over him and kissed him.


Now when Elisha had fallen sick with the illness of which he was to die, King Joash of Israel went down to him, and wept before him, crying, “My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!”


So Elisha died, and they buried him. Now bands of Moabites used to invade the land in the spring of the year.


But mortals die, and are laid low; humans expire, and where are they?


I know that you will bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.


You shall come to your grave in ripe old age, as a shock of grain comes up to the threshing floor in its season.


and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the breath returns to God who gave it.


“Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word;


so Jacob went down to Egypt. He himself died there as well as our ancestors,


By faith Joseph, at the end of his life, made mention of the exodus of the Israelites and gave instructions about his burial.


and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,
