23 Mga Krus na Reperensya

While Absalom was offering the sacrifices, he sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city Giloh. The conspiracy grew in strength, and the people with Absalom kept increasing.

Now in those days the counsel that Ahithophel gave was as if one consulted the oracle of God; so all the counsel of Ahithophel was esteemed, both by David and by Absalom.

Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, so that the Lord might bring ruin on Absalom.

When Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey and went off home to his own city. He set his house in order, and hanged himself; he died and was buried in the tomb of his father.

Then Absalom said, “Call Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear too what he has to say.”

Then Hushai said to Absalom, “This time the counsel that Ahithophel has given is not good.”

He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands achieve no success.

They beset me with words of hate, and attack me without cause.

O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me;

Even my bosom friend in whom I trusted, who ate of my bread, has lifted the heel against me.

Day and night they go around it on its walls, and iniquity and trouble are within it;

It is not enemies who taunt me— I could bear that; it is not adversaries who deal insolently with me— I could hide from them.

the spirit of the Egyptians within them will be emptied out, and I will confound their plans; they will consult the idols and the spirits of the dead and the ghosts and the familiar spirits;

who frustrates the omens of liars, and makes fools of diviners; who turns back the wise, and makes their knowledge foolish;

I am not speaking of all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But it is to fulfill the scripture, ‘The one who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.’

Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

Such wisdom does not come down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, devilish.
