If you say, ‘How we will pursue him!’ and, ‘The root of the matter is found in him,’


Whoever is wicked covets the spoil of evildoers, but the root of the righteous bears fruit.


No one is established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous will never be moved.


Yet they seek me daily and delight to know my ways, as if they were a nation that did righteousness and did not forsake the judgment of their God; they ask of me righteous judgments; they delight to draw near to God.


And behold, you are to them like one who sings lustful songs with a beautiful voice and plays well on an instrument, for they hear what you say, but they will not do it.


What shall I do with you, O Ephraim? What shall I do with you, O Judah? Your love is like a morning cloud, like the dew that goes early away.


for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he heard him gladly.


The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.


And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.


Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.


If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.


He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.

and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.


O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified.


Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain?


so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love,


if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.


rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.


For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent to learn about your faith, for fear that somehow the tempter had tempted you and our labor would be in vain.


holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith,


But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.


For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.


For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.


What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”


They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us.


These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted;
