39 And I was gentle today, though anointed king. These men, the sons of Zeruiah, are more severe than I. The Lord repay the evildoer according to his wickedness!”

But the king said, “What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? If he is cursing because the Lord has said to him, ‘Curse David,’ who then shall say, ‘Why have you done so?’”


And say to Amasa, ‘Are you not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me and more also, if you are not commander of my army from now on in place of Joab.’”


But David said, “What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should this day be as an adversary to me? Shall anyone be put to death in Israel this day? For do I not know that I am this day king over Israel?”


And the king said to his servants, “Do you not know that a prince and a great man has fallen this day in Israel?


The Lord will bring back his bloody deeds on his own head, because, without the knowledge of my father David, he attacked and killed with the sword two men more righteous and better than himself, Abner the son of Ner, commander of the army of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, commander of the army of Judah.


Now therefore do not hold him guiltless, for you are a wise man. You will know what you ought to do to him, and you shall bring his gray head down with blood to Sheol.”


For David said, “Solomon my son is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the Lord must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and glory throughout all lands. I will therefore make preparation for it.” So David provided materials in great quantity before his death.


And David the king said to all the assembly, “Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great, for the palace will not be for man but for the Lord God.


and certain worthless scoundrels gathered about him and defied Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and irresolute and could not withstand them.


Morning by morning I will destroy all the wicked in the land, cutting off all the evildoers from the city of the Lord.


Give to them according to their work and according to the evil of their deeds; give to them according to the work of their hands; render them their due reward.


and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For you will render to a man according to his work.


His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends.


All the horns of the wicked I will cut off, but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.


“Whoever strikes a man so that he dies shall be put to death.


A king who sits on the throne of judgment winnows all evil with his eyes.


take away the wicked from the presence of the king, and his throne will be established in righteousness.


Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him, for what his hands have dealt out shall be done to him.


And say to him, ‘Be careful, be quiet, do not fear, and do not let your heart be faint because of these two smoldering stumps of firebrands, at the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria and the son of Remaliah.


King Zedekiah said, “Behold, he is in your hands, for the king can do nothing against you.”


Then the king commanded, and Daniel was brought and cast into the den of lions. The king declared to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!”


But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out.


for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer.


Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds.


And God also made all the evil of the men of Shechem return on their heads, and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.
