I’m the example of failure and shame to all who see me. They just walk by me, shaking their heads.


At last their lying lips will be muted in their graves. For they are arrogant, filled with contempt and conceit as they speak against the godly.


You have made us the butt of their jokes. Disliked by all, we are the laughingstock of the people.


Yahweh, Israel’s Kinsman-Redeemer and Holy One, says to the one who is deeply despised and repulsed by rulers and a slave to the ruling class: “Kings will see and stand up in respect; princes will bow down to honor the faithfulness of Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”


He was despised and rejected by men, a man of deep sorrows who was no stranger to suffering and grief. We hid our faces from him in disgust and considered him a nobody, not worthy of respect.


Who do you think you’re mocking? At whom do you sneer and stick out your tongue? Why, you’re a rebellious child, the offspring of liars!


Then they braided a crown of thorns and forcefully shoved it onto his head. After placing a reed staff in his right hand, they knelt down before him and mocked him, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!”


He told them, “You must leave, for the little girl is not dead; she’s only asleep.” Then everyone began to ridicule him.


When they finished ridiculing him, they took off the purple robe, put his own clothes back on him, and led him away to be crucified.


Those who passed by shook their heads and spitefully ridiculed him, saying, “Aha! You boasted that you could destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days.


Now, the Jewish religious leaders listening to Jesus were lovers of money. They laughed at what he said and mocked his teachings,
