And Joab sent to Tekoa and brought from there a wise woman and said to her, “Pretend to be a mourner and put on mourning garments. Do not anoint yourself with oil, but behave like a woman who has been mourning many days for the dead.


Those who seek my life lay their snares; those who seek my hurt speak of ruin and meditate treachery all day long.


Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you.


Those who hate the Lord would cringe toward him, and their fate would last forever.


But I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter. I did not know it was against me they devised schemes, saying, “Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name be remembered no more.”


Then they said, “Come, let us make plots against Jeremiah, for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not pay attention to any of his words.”


For I hear many whispering. Terror is on every side! “Denounce him! Let us denounce him!” say all my close friends, watching for my fall. “Perhaps he will be deceived; then we can overcome him and take our revenge on him.”


Then the high officials and the satraps sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel with regard to the kingdom, but they could find no ground for complaint or any fault, because he was faithful, and no error or fault was found in him.


And they bound him and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate the governor.


And they watched Jesus, to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him.


lying in wait for him, to catch him in something he might say.


So they asked him, “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach rightly, and show no partiality, but truly teach the way of God.


And they were not able in the presence of the people to catch him in what he said, but marveling at his answer they became silent.


And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
