David therefore sought God on behalf of the child. And David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground.


And when Ahab heard those words, he tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his flesh and fasted and lay in sackcloth and went about dejectedly.


In that day the Lord God of hosts called for weeping and mourning, for baldness and wearing sackcloth;


but you shall be called the priests of the Lord; they shall speak of you as the ministers of our God; you shall eat the wealth of the nations, and in their glory you shall boast.


For this put on sackcloth, lament and wail, for the fierce anger of the Lord has not turned back from us.”


“I will take up weeping and wailing for the mountains, and a lamentation for the pastures of the wilderness, because they are laid waste so that no one passes through, and the lowing of cattle is not heard; both the birds of the air and the beasts have fled and are gone.


Cry out and wail, son of man, for it is against my people. It is against all the princes of Israel. They are delivered over to the sword with my people. Strike therefore upon your thigh.


they make themselves bald for you and put sackcloth on their waist, and they weep over you in bitterness of soul, with bitter mourning.


They put on sackcloth, and horror covers them. Shame is on all faces, and baldness on all their heads.


What will you do on the day of the appointed festival, and on the day of the feast of the Lord?


“Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning;


Who knows whether he will not turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind him, a grain offering and a drink offering for the Lord your God?


Between the vestibule and the altar let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep and say, “Spare your people, O Lord, and make not your heritage a reproach, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’”


Their drink offerings shall be half a hin of wine for a bull, a third of a hin for a ram, and a quarter of a hin for a lamb. This is the burnt offering of each month throughout the months of the year.


The one lamb you shall offer in the morning, and the other lamb you shall offer at twilight;


Its drink offering shall be a quarter of a hin for each lamb. In the Holy Place you shall pour out a drink offering of strong drink to the Lord.


besides the burnt offering of the new moon, and its grain offering, and the regular burnt offering and its grain offering, and their drink offering, according to the rule for them, for a pleasing aroma, a food offering to the Lord.


This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.


Do you not know that those who are employed in the temple service get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in the sacrificial offerings?


Are they servants of Christ? I am a better one—I am talking like a madman—with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless beatings, and often near death.


who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.


but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: by great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities,


And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.”
