You have sold your people for a trifle, demanding no high price for them.


at the sound of the taunter and reviler, at the sight of the enemy and the avenger.


How long, O God, is the foe to scoff? Is the enemy to revile your name forever?


Remember this, O Lord, how the enemy scoffs, and a foolish people reviles your name.


Then the Lord said, “I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings,


What have you to do here, and whom have you here, that you have cut out here a tomb for yourself, you who cut out a tomb on the height and carve a dwelling for yourself in the rock?


“‘I know your sitting down and your going out and coming in, and your raging against me.


Isaiah said to them, “Say to your master, ‘Thus says the Lord: Do not be afraid because of the words that you have heard, with which the young men of the king of Assyria have reviled me.


I was angry with my people; I profaned my heritage; I gave them into your hand; you showed them no mercy; on the aged you made your yoke exceedingly heavy.


Your sons have fainted; they lie at the head of every street like an antelope in a net; they are full of the wrath of the Lord, the rebuke of your God.


and I will put it into the hand of your tormentors, who have said to you, ‘Bow down, that we may pass over’; and you have made your back like the ground and like the street for them to pass over.”


For thus says the Lord: “You were sold for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money.”


“Israel is a hunted sheep driven away by lions. First the king of Assyria devoured him, and now at last Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has gnawed his bones.


“They heard my groaning, yet there is no one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that you have done it. You have brought the day you announced; now let them be as I am.


He has cut down in fierce anger all the might of Israel; he has withdrawn from them his right hand in the face of the enemy; he has burned like a flaming fire in Jacob, consuming all around.


But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out.
