They are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand.


They said to God, ‘Depart from us,’ and ‘What can the Almighty do to us?’


So he saved them from the hand of the foe and redeemed them from the power of the enemy.


“Ah, stubborn children,” declares the Lord, “who carry out a plan, but not mine, and who make an alliance, but not of my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin;


who set out to go down to Egypt, without asking for my direction, to take refuge in the protection of Pharaoh and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt!


Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the Lord!


Fear not, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel! I am the one who helps you, declares the Lord; your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.


But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.

they wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. My sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, with none to search or seek for them.


Ephraim has surrounded me with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit, but Judah still walks with God and is faithful to the Holy One.


The more they were called, the more they went away; they kept sacrificing to the Baals and burning offerings to idols.


They have dealt faithlessly with the Lord; for they have borne alien children. Now the new moon shall devour them with their fields.


when I would heal Israel, the iniquity of Ephraim is revealed, and the evil deeds of Samaria, for they deal falsely; the thief breaks in, and the bandits raid outside.


By their evil they make the king glad, and the princes by their treachery.


Even if they bring up children, I will bereave them till none is left. Woe to them when I depart from them!


My God will reject them because they have not listened to him; they shall be wanderers among the nations.


Then the men were exceedingly afraid and said to him, “What is this that you have done!” For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.


But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord.


Your rich men are full of violence; your inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.
