those who trust in their wealth and boast of the abundance of their riches?


“See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction!”


Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them.


A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight.


There are those who are clean in their own eyes but are not washed of their filth.


This is the way of an adulteress: she eats and wipes her mouth and says, “I have done no wrong.”


How can you say, ‘I am not unclean, I have not gone after the Baals’? Look at your way in the valley; know what you have done— a restless young camel running here and there,


you say, ‘I am innocent; surely his anger has turned from me.’ Behold, I will bring you to judgment for saying, ‘I have not sinned.’


Like a cage full of birds, their houses are full of deceit; therefore they have become great and rich;


by your great wisdom in your trade you have increased your wealth, and your heart has become proud in your wealth—


but when they had grazed, they became full, they were filled, and their heart was lifted up; therefore they forgot me.


Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God, for you have stumbled because of your iniquity.


They feed on the sin of my people; they are greedy for their iniquity.


saying, “When will the new moon be over, that we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, that we may offer wheat for sale, that we may make the ephah small and the shekel great and deal deceitfully with false balances,


Therefore he sacrifices to his net and makes offerings to his dragnet; for by them he lives in luxury, and his food is rich.


Those who buy them slaughter them and go unpunished, and those who sell them say, ‘Blessed be the Lord, I have become rich,’ and their own shepherds have no pity on them.


You have wearied the Lord with your words. But you say, “How have we wearied him?” By saying, “Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the Lord, and he delights in them.” Or by asking, “Where is the God of justice?”


“Your words have been hard against me, says the Lord. But you say, ‘How have we spoken against you?’


But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”


And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’


No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”


And he said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.


Beware lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’


As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.


and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.


For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.
