And he divided his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and defeated them and pursued them to Hobah, north of Damascus.


After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.”


And Abram said, “Behold, you have given me no offspring, and a member of my household will be my heir.”


Then the servant took ten of his master’s camels and departed, taking all sorts of choice gifts from his master; and he arose and went to Mesopotamia to the city of Nahor.


And Abraham said to his servant, the oldest of his household, who had charge of all that he had, “Put your hand under my thigh,


And Isaac prayed to the Lord for his wife, because she was barren. And the Lord granted his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived.


He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?”


So they went up to the steward of Joseph’s house and spoke with him at the door of the house,


Then he commanded the steward of his house, “Fill the men’s sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put each man’s money in the mouth of his sack,


Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.


Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.


A servant who deals wisely will rule over a son who acts shamefully and will share the inheritance as one of the brothers.


An oracle concerning Damascus. Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city and will become a heap of ruins.


I will give in my house and within my walls a monument and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off.


Concerning Damascus: “Hamath and Arpad are confounded, for they have heard bad news; they melt in fear, they are troubled like the sea that cannot be quiet.


Yet he gave him no inheritance in it, not even a foot’s length, but promised to give it to him as a possession and to his offspring after him, though he had no child.


And the servant who was in charge of the reapers answered, “She is the young Moabite woman, who came back with Naomi from the country of Moab.


And she vowed a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head.”
