Now there happened to be there a worthless man, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjaminite. And he blew the trumpet and said, “We have no portion in David, and we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse; every man to his tents, O Israel!”


And the men of his city, the elders and the leaders who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had sent word to them. As it was written in the letters that she had sent to them,


And she wrote in the letters, “Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth at the head of the people.


Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. Now the king had dispatched a man from his presence, but before the messenger arrived Elisha said to the elders, “Do you see how this murderer has sent to take off my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door and hold the door fast against him. Is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?”


And when the days of the feast had run their course, Job would send and consecrate them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my children have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts.” Thus Job did continually.


“You shall not revile God, nor curse a ruler of your people.


a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.


Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far away; for truth has stumbled in the public squares, and uprightness cannot enter.


“Bring out of the camp the one who cursed, and let all who heard him lay their hands on his head, and let all the congregation stone him.


The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.”


Then they secretly instigated men who said, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”


and they set up false witnesses who said, “This man never ceases to speak words against this holy place and the law,


that certain worthless fellows have gone out among you and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ which you have not known,


“A single witness shall not suffice against a person for any crime or for any wrong in connection with any offense that he has committed. Only on the evidence of two witnesses or of three witnesses shall a charge be established.


As they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, worthless fellows, surrounded the house, beating on the door. And they said to the old man, the master of the house, “Bring out the man who came into your house, that we may know him.”


Now the sons of Eli were worthless men. They did not know the Lord.
