Again he sent a third captain of fifty men, and the fifty that were with him. And when he was come, he fell upon his knees, before Elias, and besought him and said: Man of God, despise not my life, and the lives of thy servants that are with me.


Behold, fire came down from heaven, and consumed the two first captains of fifty men, and the fifties that were with them: but now I beseech thee to spare my life.


I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices: and thy burnt offerings are always in my sight.


And I have been scourged all the day; and my chastisement hath been in the mornings.


And Pharao sent and called Moses and Aaron, saying to them: I have sinned this time also. The Lord is just: I and my people are wicked.


Balaam said: I have sinned, not knowing that thou didst stand against me. And now if it displease thee that I go, I will return.


Saying: I have sinned in betraying innocent blood. But they said: What is that to us? look thou to it.


And Samuel said to Saul: Thou hast done foolishly, and hast not kept the commandments of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee. And if thou hadst not done thus, the Lord would now have established thy kingdom over Israel for ever.


And Saul said to Samuel: I have sinned because I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words, fearing the people, and obeying their voice.


Then he said: I have sinned. Yet honour me now before the ancients of my people, and before Israel, and return with me, that I may adore the Lord thy God.


And the princes of the Philistines went forth: and from the beginning of their going forth David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul. And his name became very famous.


And when David had made an end of speaking these words to Saul, Saul said: Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.


And David answering said: Behold the king's spear. Let one of the king's servants come over and fetch it.


And as thy life hath been much set by this day in my eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the Lord: and let him deliver me from all distress.


And it was told Saul that David was fled to Geth: and he sought no more after him.
