Respond to the foolish according to his folly, lest he imagine himself to be wise.


Then the Pharisees, departing, took council against him, as to how they might destroy him.


Then the scribes and the Pharisees came to him from Jerusalem, saying:


And he said to them, "Consider and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees."


And the Pharisees approached him, testing him, and saying, "Is it lawful for a man to separate from his wife, no matter what the cause?"


Then the Pharisees, going out, took counsel as to how they might entrap him in speech.


But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said: "Why do you test me, you hypocrites?


In that day, the Sadducees, who say there is to be no resurrection, approached him. And they questioned him,


saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees have sat down in the chair of Moses.


Then the next day, which is after the Preparation day, the leaders of the priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate together,


For I say to you, that unless your justice has surpassed that of the scribes and the Pharisees you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.


And the Pharisees, seeing this, said to his disciples, "Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"


And approaching, the Pharisees questioned him, testing him: "Is it lawful for a man to dismiss his wife?"


And knowing their skill in deception, he said to them: "Why do you test me? Bring me a denarius, so that I may see it."


And the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, approached him. And they questioned him, saying:


And behold, a certain expert in the law rose up, testing him and saying, "Teacher, what must I do to possess eternal life?"


And others, testing him, required a sign from heaven of him.


But realizing their deceitfulness, he said to them: "Why do you test me?


Now some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is a resurrection, approached him. And they questioned him,


But they were saying this to test him, so that they might be able to accuse him. Then Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the earth.


But while they were speaking to the people, the priests and the magistrate of the temple and the Sadducees overwhelmed them,


Then the high priest and all those who were with him, that is, the heretical sect of the Sadducees, rose up and were filled with jealousy.


For the Jews ask for signs, and the Greeks seek wisdom.
