Then the heads of fathers’ households of Judah and Benjamin, the priests and the Levites, all whose spirit God had stirred to go up, rose up to build the house of YHWH which is in Jerusalem.


Blessed be YHWH, the God of our fathers, who has put such a thing as this in the king’s heart, to beautify the house of YHWH which is in Jerusalem;


They said to me, “The remnant that remains from the exile there in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.”


Then I said to them, “Y’all see the bad situation that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come y’all, let’s build up the wall of Jerusalem, so that we won’t be disgraced.”


I said to the king, “Let the king live forever! Why shouldn’t my face be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ tombs, lies waste, and its gates have been consumed with fire?”


Judah said, “The strength of the bearers of burdens is fading and there is much rubble, so that we are not able to build the wall.”


He spoke before his brothers and the army of Samaria, and said, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they fortify themselves? Will they sacrifice? Will they finish in a day? Will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish, since they are burned?”


So we built the wall; and all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.


It is time to act, YHWH, for they break your law.


God, the nations have come into your inheritance. They have defiled your holy temple. They have laid Jerusalem in heaps.


For YHWH will have compassion on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land. The foreigner will join himself with them, and they will unite with the house of Jacob.


“Y’all are to speak kindly to Jerusalem and announce to her that her time of warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, and that she has received from YHWH’s hand double for all her sins.”


For YHWH has comforted Zion. He has comforted all her waste places, and has made her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of YHWH. Joy and gladness will be found in them, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.


For YHWH says, “After seventy years are accomplished for Babylon, I will visit y’all and fulfill my good word toward y’all, to return y’all to this place.


This is what YHWH says: “I am about reverse the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have compassion on his dwelling places. The city will be built on its own hill, and the palace will be inhabited in its own place.


Lord, according to all your righteousness, please let your anger and your wrath be turned away from your city Jerusalem, your holy mountain; because for our sins and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and your people have become a reproach to all who are around us.


Then she arose to return from the country of Moab with her daughters-in-law, because she heard that YHWH had attended to ʜɪꜱ people by providing them food.
